In a bid to address the pressing issue of soaring prices of essential goods, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has taken proactive steps to mitigate the burden on the Malaysian populace. Acknowledging the existence of these challenges, he has exhibited a commitment to ameliorate the situation, underscoring his government's dedication to the welfare of its citizens.

The Prime Minister's concern for the escalating cost of living was made evident during a recent meeting with key officials. Anwar revealed that he had engaged with the acting minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, and the Deputy Minister, Datuk Fuziah Salleh, to address the issue comprehensively. Furthermore, the Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, played an active role in addressing this pressing concern during the National Action Council on Cost of Living (NACCOL) Committee meeting.

In his candid acknowledgment of the problem, Prime Minister Anwar stressed the global factors exacerbating the situation. He pointed to international events such as restrictions on rice exports and increased onion export taxes in some countries, which have had a cascading impact on the Malaysian economy and the prices of essential goods. Despite these external pressures, Anwar assured the public that his government would make every effort to resolve the issue.

Anwar's commitment to addressing this issue extends to the nation's finances. He pledged that the Finance Ministry would step in whenever necessary to provide assistance, demonstrating the government's dedication to ensuring the affordability of essential goods for all Malaysians.

As speculation swirled regarding a possible Cabinet reshuffle, prompted by the vacancy left by the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, the former Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Anwar remained cautious. He clarified that his upcoming weekly audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah was a customary affair. While not ruling out the possibility of a reshuffle in the future, he emphasized that there was no immediate urgency, citing just one vacant position in the Cabinet.

The vacancy left by Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub's passing in July had fueled speculations of an imminent Cabinet reshuffle. However, Anwar hinted that any such changes would only materialize after the Pelangai state by-election on October 7, reinforcing his commitment to maintaining stability while addressing pressing national issues.
