PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has conveyed his deep sorrow over the massive floods that have ravaged parts of Pakistan and India, claiming hundreds of lives and forcing widespread evacuations.
In a Facebook post, Anwar shared that he was moved by images of homes swept away, families mourning their loved ones, and the bravery of rescue teams operating under perilous conditions.
“In this difficult moment, the people of Malaysia stand firmly with all those affected. We share your grief and draw strength from the courage, compassion, and resilience shown by many on the frontlines,” he wrote.
“Our prayers and thoughts are with all who are mourning, as well as those still searching for hope amid this tragedy,” he added.
Since last Thursday, unprecedented heavy rains in Pakistan have triggered flash floods and landslides that have destroyed villages and buried hundreds of residents.
As of Sunday, at least 344 deaths have been reported, predominantly in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region, while over 150 remain missing.
Local authorities revealed that up to 12 villages in the Buner district were partially buried under mud and large boulders. Rescue operations have been hampered by blocked roads and persistent rainfall. - August 18, 2025
