The Princess of Wales is set to make a significant joint appearance alongside King Charles and Queen Camilla at a cancer charity reception on Tuesday evening, marking a poignant moment for the royals who have both recently navigated cancer diagnoses.
Kate, who announced she was in remission 16 months ago in January 2025 after being diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer early in 2024 and undergoing chemotherapy, will join her father-in-law, King Charles, who is still receiving treatment for his own cancer.
The royal trio will gather at London’s St James’s Palace to honour Cancer Research UK. Kensington Palace confirmed the princess’s attendance on Tuesday morning.
The event, hosted by the King in his capacity as patron of Cancer Research UK, commemorates the organisation’s 125th anniversary.
The royals are expected to meet with researchers, clinicians, volunteers, and partners dedicated to cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
This engagement follows the Princess of Wales’s return to international travel last month, undertaking her first overseas royal visit since her diagnosis for her ongoing early years work in Italy.
The two-day visit to Reggio Emilia, near Bologna, was the beginning of a “really significant moment” after her cancer recovery, an aide has said, with Kate “taking it up a gear” in pursuit of her “global mission”.
The King, whose diary is as busy as ever despite still receiving treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer, carried out a historic state visit to the US last month, charming Donald Trump and delivering a widely praised address to Congress.
Charles, Camilla and Kate will be shown immersive installations showcasing the work of the charity and visual representations of how technological innovation is transforming research into the disease.
The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester will also attend, with the duke being a joint president of the charity.
Speaking on Heart radio, the Prince of Wales previously shared that his wife returned "buzzing" from her recent trip to Italy where she promoted early years development, a subject he noted she has become a "pro" on.
He cautioned that royal tours are demanding, stressing the need to "make sure she’s OK and rested" as she gradually resumes her duties.
William said: "She’s an amazing mum and an amazing wife and literally our family couldn’t cope without her, so she’s been absolutely stunning, really has."
