Kota Kinabalu: Star Deputy President Datuk Kenny Chua said the Principal and management of SMK Agama Tun Mustapha have a lot to answer on what actually happened that their student was found in the drain at 3am in the school compound and died in hospital the following day.

“I believe the school has a lot to assist in the investigation,” he said, adding the case marks a defining test for Malaysia’s justice system, where integrity and public trust mattered.

“Justice must not only be done, it must be seen to be done,” he said.

“Zara has become a symbol of the people’s fight against injustice and falsehoods,” Kenny said and called for full transparency and accountability in the investigation into the death of 13-year-old Zara Qairina Mahathir.

Meanwhile, Perikatan Nasional Sabah Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee welcomed the Attorney General’s Chambers directive for further investigation into the death of Zara Qairina, including exhumation and additional post-mortem procedures.

The Beluran Member of Parliament in a statement, said it must be followed immediately by inquest proceedings as requested by the family through their lawyers.

“This step is an important beginning to address the allegations by Zara’s family as well as public perception that there were weaknesses and shortcomings in the initial investigation conducted,” he said.

He said Thursday’s massive “Justice for Zara” rally is evidence of public solidarity and awakening in demanding justice for the victim and her family.

Ronald described the tragedy as more than just a family’s loss, calling it a major test of the values of justice, integrity and honesty of the institutions involved, including the Ministry of Education.
