KOTA KINABALU: The Principal of SMKA Tun Mustapha told the Coroner’s Court on Tuesday that she did not instruct any warden to contact police during the incident involving student Zara Qairina Mahathir as staff were focused on trying to save her.

Shaharoom Hashim said she did not direct the warden on duty to file a police report at that moment because she feared Zara’s injuries were serious and believed their priority was to seek immediate medical help.

She said she contacted the family and notified both the District Education Office and the State Education Department while waiting for the ambulance to arrive.

Shaharoom told the court she was at the hospital at the time and did not know who instructed others to clean the area where Zara had been found unconscious at the hostel grounds.

She added that she had never received complaints from Zara or her parents regarding bullying or any school-related problems throughout her tenure.
