Kota Kinabalu: Government employees are required to prioritise innovation in order to ensure that departmental services are delivered to people in a timely, efficient, and effective manner.
Datuk Dr Ariffin Arif, State Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, said it is necessary for it to be in line with the current technological changes in line with the current development of globalisation.
“In order to ensure that our service delivery remains competitive, the culture of innovation needs to be emphasised by changing the way of working so that it is oriented towards the Department’s vision and mission.
“At the same time, it should also be used as a work practice at all times throughout the year, not just as filling material for a specific programme,” he said when officiating the State Education Department’s New Horizon Mini Convention of Innovative and Creative Groups 2023 held at SM Lok Yuk, here, Tuesday.
Also present was the Deputy Director of the School Management Sector, Abidin Marjan.
In the innovation competition, 15 groups were chosen from 28 entries, including those from the education sector and the District Education Office.
Speaking of the programme, Ariffin, who is also the Education Exco, hoped the State Education Department would continue to redouble its efforts to generate many more bursts of new ideas in the service delivery system.
He defined social innovation as “new solution methods involving ideas, models, and services that are capable of meeting social interests more effectively and prioritise people’s involvement.”
“Service Delivery Innovation is a creative and innovative translation of new ideas to transform the delivery of government services, while improving the quality of services to the people,” he said.
