PUTATAN: The public are advised to always prioritise their safety and health.
Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Shahelmey Yahya said the effects of the Northeast Monsoon, characterised by episodes of continuous heavy rain, can lead to floods and landslides.
He urged the public, especially in this district, to exercise caution and remain prepared in case of continuous heavy rain that may lead to flash floods.
“Always be prepared and follow the instructions from local authorities, especially if you are directed to relocate for safety reasons,” he said at a ceremony to hand over aid to the poor and the symbolic handover of the Sabah Sports Contingent (Saga) flag at Dewan Sri Putatan.
Shahelmey, who is also Putatan MP, urged the community to adhere to measures aimed at curbing the spread of Covid-19, which has seen an increase of 100 cases over the past few weeks.
“The public need not be overly concerned because according to records from the State Health Department, the cases are categorised as status one and two.
“However, as a responsible society, we should take preventive measures if we experience symptoms related to Covid-19.
“Anyone exhibiting symptoms of Covid-19 should conduct a self-examination or visit a nearby health clinic for proper advice and treatment,” he said.
During the ceremony, Shahelmey presented assistance to 81 recipients to alleviate their financial burden due to the rising cost of living.
