Kota Kinabalu: The Prisons Department is urging more companies in Sabah to hire parolees to help them reintegrate into society and turn over a new leaf under the parole system.

Its Deputy Director-General Datuk Ibrisam Abdul Rahman said inmates deserve a second chance at life and it would do more harm than good to release them back into the community without rehabilitating them first.

Under programmes such as the Corporate Smart Internship (CSI), companies can also do their role in destigmatising the negative connotations associated with former convicts and increase their chances of finding employment when released from prison.
