PAS hopes Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISBH) will not be unfairly targeted amid investigations into alleged child abuse, sexual abuse and deviant Islamic teachings at the group said Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.
The Islamist party’s secretary general said the Islamist party welcomed a transparent and professional investigation into the various allegations against GISBH and fully supports strict action being taken on those found guilty.
"However, the eagerness to punish them should not affect the group as a whole, especially its innocent members or GISBH's legal and beneficial activities.”
"Pas believes that the positive aspects of this group including its extensive business network should be protected from hasty and unjust actions that may stem from rash sentiments, prejudice, competition and political agendas," he said in a statement today.
The Kota Baru lawmaker said the party would monitor developments on the probe into GISBH.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain yesterday announced that following raids on 82 premises suspected of connections to the GISBH, police arrested a total of 155 individuals and successfully rescued victims, comprising 102 men and 84 women.
Police said the victims had endured various forms of exploitation and abuse, including being sodomised.
The latest figures bring the total number of individuals detained to over 300, including top management of GISBH, while 588 victims have been successfully rescued.
Razarudin said that to date, seven suspects have been charged in court with a total of 29 offences.
Victims aged 18 and above have been returned to their next of kin, while those under 18 have been entrusted to the Social Welfare Department, under Section 25(2) of the Child Act 2001.
GISBH has since denied the allegations of child exploitation and sexual abuse. - September 22, 2024
