Kota Kinabalu: Police are investigating the beating of a teenage girl in a video that went viral on social media, Sunday.

The 18-second video even showed the attacker – a boy about the same age – to have slapped the victim using his slippers.

The violence was said to have taken place at a shopping centre here.

City Police Chief ACP Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said all elements, including station chiefs in this district, have been instructed to obtain further information regarding the incident such as location and perpetrator.

“We are also seeking cooperation from the public to provide information on the incident,” he said in a statement, Monday.

In the video’s comment section on Facebook, a user named “Lex Fui Chai” claimed the victim was actually the attacker’s sister who left their terminally ill mother at home alone.

“Actually, the girl is at fault...she left their mother just to go and see her boyfriend,” he claimed, adding he knew the person behind the camera.
