Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva on Sunday said the Delhi Government would begin the process of issuing nearly two lakh new ration cards from next week, describing the move as a step towards the fulfilment of promises made by the BJP during the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections. Sachdeva said applications for the new ration cards would be accepted solely through an online system to ensure transparency.
Claiming that issuance of ration cards had remained stalled for years under the AAP government, the party chief alleged that poor families in the Capital had been forced to buy food grains from the open market because they were unable to access benefits under the public distribution system.
“For the past eight years, the Arvind Kejriwal-led government made tall claims but failed to provide poor people with a document as essential as a ration card,” he said, adding that the BJP government in Delhi was gradually making good on the promises made by the party before the 2025 elections.
Additionally, Sachdeva directed district and mandal-level BJP workers to spread awareness about the application process and assist eligible residents with the online applications so the welfare benefits provided by both the Central and Delhi Governments could reach needy citizens.
