In a significant development within Malaysia's infrastructure sector, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Projek Lintasan Kota Holdings Sdn Bhd (Prolintas) and seven others in connection with alleged bribery linked to two major highway projects. The projects in question are valued at RM1.67 billion, according to sources from the MACC.

Prolintas, a key player in the management and operation of several highways in the Klang Valley, acknowledged the arrests in an official statement. The company indicated that its personnel have been remanded to assist in the ongoing investigation concerning a construction case. This confirmation underscores Prolintas's commitment to cooperate fully with the authorities during this investigation.

MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya confirmed the arrests, emphasizing that the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009. This section pertains to the solicitation and acceptance of bribes, which are serious offenses under Malaysian law.

According to MACC sources, the CEO, who holds the honorary title of Datuk, along with two other senior officials from Prolintas, have been remanded for four days until June 28. Additionally, five individuals from a different company have been remanded for three days until June 27. These individuals are suspected of involvement in corrupt practices aimed at securing lucrative contracts.

Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin issued the remand orders following an application by the MACC at the Magistrate's Court in Putrajaya. The MACC's investigation suggests that the three suspects from Prolintas solicited and accepted bribes from the owners of another company. These bribes were allegedly in exchange for contracts to take over construction projects previously awarded to a different company, with a combined value exceeding RM1 billion. Furthermore, the suspects are believed to have solicited and accepted bribes related to the construction of another highway section in the Klang Valley, valued at approximately RM670 million.

In its statement, Prolintas reiterated its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and corporate governance. The company stressed its dedication to working closely with the relevant authorities to facilitate a thorough and transparent investigation.

Prolintas is responsible for operating several key highways in the Klang Valley, including the Guthrie Corridor Expressway, Kemuning-Shah Alam Highway (LKSA), Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH), Kajang Dispersal Link Expressway (SILK), Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway (DASH), and the Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway (SUKE). These highways are crucial to the region's transportation infrastructure, making the allegations of corruption and the subsequent investigation a matter of significant public interest.

As the investigation unfolds, the focus will remain on uncovering the full extent of the alleged corrupt activities and ensuring that justice is served. The MACC's proactive approach in addressing corruption within the infrastructure sector highlights the importance of transparency and accountability in public projects.
