KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Public Works Department (JKR) is studying a proposal to build an additional U-turn along Jalan Berungis-Tebobon to ease heavy traffic in the area.
Sabah JKR Deputy Director (Pan Borneo Highway Sector), Dato’ Ir. Mohd Shamsul Nizam Abdul Wahid said the idea came from local residents and would shorten the current U-turn route, which is located far away in Bandar Sierra.
The proposed U-turn, near the Telekom Malaysia building, could be completed within four to six weeks if approved, he said after a traffic management briefing on the Pan Borneo Highway project on Monday.
For the long term, key stretches of the highway are being expedited, with WP07 expected to be completed by year-end and WP08 by 2026, including a new flyover in Tuaran.
Local leaders, including Gagasan Rakyat Darau Chief Datuk Mohammed Razali Razi and Gagasan Rakyat Karambunai Chief Datuk Arshad Idris, welcomed the briefing and pledged to relay the updates to their communities.
