Prosecution presents 28 grounds against Syed Saddiq's acquittal

THE prosecution has filed 28 grounds of appeal in the Federal Court against Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman's acquittal from his criminal case related to the alleged misuse of Bersatu funds.

The prosecution is appealing against the Court of Appeal’s (COA) decision to acquit the Muar member of Parliament of four charges consisting of abetting criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of party funds, and money laundering.

Confirming the matter, Deputy Public Prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin when contacted by Sinar Harian said that the highest court should reinstate the conviction and sentence handed down by the Kuala Lumpur High Court, thus setting aside the decision of the three-judge panel of the Court of Appeal on June 25.

Based on the notice filed, the appellant said that the money obtained could not be considered the respondent's absolute right because it was collected specifically for party campaign purposes and should not have been deposited into a personal account.

On June 25, Syed Saddiq was acquitted and acquitted of the conviction and sentence for the four cases involved, seven years ago.

This involved one case of conspiracy to commit criminal breach of trust of funds amounting to RM1 million, one charge of misappropriation of property (RM120,000) and two counts of money laundering (AMLA) each (RM50,000). – September 22, 2025
