POLICE have completed their investigation into the recent fracas in Kampung Sungai Baru that left the Dang Wangi district police chief injured, with the case file now resubmitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor’s Office along with proposed charges against several suspects.
Deputy Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said the investigation paper was initially submitted on Wednesday but returned with further instructions. It was then resubmitted on Friday with recommendations for prosecution.
“To date, eight local men have been arrested and later released on police bail after the expiry of their remand periods,” he told Sinar Harian on Friday.
A total of 67 individuals have provided statements to assist in the probe. These include 52 police personnel, among them the Dang Wangi district police chief himself, three court officers, two Civil Defence Force (APM) members, two medical officers from Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL), a lawyer, a residents’ representative, a company director, four civilians, and a woman acting as guardian to one of the suspects.
The incident occurred on 11 September during an enforcement operation related to the ongoing land acquisition and redevelopment project in Kampung Sungai Baru. Dang Wangi Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman sustained a head injury while overseeing the operation and was later taken to HKL for further treatment.
The land acquisition process, initiated in 2016, has become increasingly contentious, particularly among residents of 67 terraced homes who have rejected the compensation rate of RM400 per square foot set by the Federal Territories Land and Mines Office.
