PROTON has officially expanded the S70 range with two new naturally aspirated variants, the S70 Lite and Prime, both of which are now open for booking nationwide.
Customers who book and register either variant by December 31 this year will also qualify for an early bird reward, with details to be announced at launch.
The new variants sit below the existing turbocharged S70 range and are powered by Proton’s i-GT 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Estimated pricing will start from below RM60,000, with final prices to be announced at the official launch.
Proton has yet to announce output figures or further technical details for the new powertrain, but says the naturally aspirated setup is aimed at buyers prioritising comfort, practicality and easier everyday driving over outright performance.
That makes the Lite and Prime quite different from the existing S70 Executive, Premium, Flagship and Flagship X, which use a turbocharged 1.5-litre engine producing 181PS and 290Nm, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Despite their lower positioning, Proton says the two new variants retain several familiar S70 features, including Proton Ride & Handling and three selectable drive modes.
The company is also highlighting 10 class-leading features across the new range, including cabin space, rear passenger shoulder room, a soft-touch instrument panel, auto up/down windows with anti-trap, an electric parking brake with auto brake hold, remote engine start and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Safety and convenience equipment includes a reverse camera, rear seat reminder and Proton’s Rear Side Radar System, which combines Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Door Opening Warning and Rear Collision Warning.
Six airbags and front and rear parking sensors are also available, while Proton notes that equipment will vary depending on variant.
Other cabin features include leatherette seats and five USB ports. Proton also claims class-leading NVH performance for the Lite and Prime, in keeping with the more relaxed character it is targeting with the naturally aspirated powertrain.
The addition of the Lite and Prime broadens the S70’s reach below its current turbocharged range, which starts from RM 69,000 for the Executive.
Proton says the S70 has averaged more than 2,500 units in monthly sales throughout 2026, and the new variants are intended to make the sedan accessible to a wider group of buyers.
