PROTON is contributing drones valued at close to RM200,000 to the Government of Nepal to support humanitarian and disaster response efforts following recent floods in the country.
The equipment was handed over to Malaysia’s National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) at the Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART) headquarters in Pulau Meranti for onward delivery to Nepal.
Nadma coordinated the arrangement, while SMART will transport the drones as part of Malaysia’s humanitarian mission. The equipment will remain with the Government of Nepal after the mission.
The drones are intended to assist with aerial assessments of disaster-hit areas, particularly locations that may be difficult or unsafe to access from the ground. They can also provide response teams with a wider view of affected areas when planning the deployment of personnel and resources.
Proton said SMART will provide training to the relevant Nepalese agency on how to operate the drones before they are handed over.
Representing Proton at the handover was Proton International Corporation CEO Edmund Lim Meng Thong, while Nadma was represented by director-general Datuk Meor Ismail Meor Akim. Representatives from Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs were also present.
The contribution also comes as Proton expands its presence in Nepal through authorised distributor Jagdamba Motors, which represents the Proton eMas brand in the country.
Proton said the assistance reflects its broader responsibility to support communities affected by natural disasters, while expressing solidarity with the people of Nepal as humanitarian and recovery efforts continue.
