PSB chief declares candidacy for Sibu parliamentary seat

MIRI – Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh has announced his intention to contest the Sibu parliamentary constituency for the 15th general election (GE15).

Making the announcement following the state opposition party’s meeting at its head office in Sibu, Wong said he is obliged to lead the party into GE15.

“As the president of PSB, I have to lead the party into GE15, which will see parliamentary elections in Sarawak.

“It is also the wishes of the party members and the rakyat in Sibu that I contest the parliamentary seat,” he said.

Presently, Wong is also the assemblyman for Bawang Assan, which is part of the Sibu constituency.

The 80-year-old said despite his advancing age, he still has the will to serve the rakyat and will do his best to perform his duties at both the parliamentary and state assembly levels.

Wong’s announcement means that PSB is set to clash with DAP, which currently holds the Sibu parliamentary seat.

Incumbent MP Oscar Ling had previously defeated candidates from Sarawak United Peoples’ Party as well as two other local parties by about 11,000 votes during the 2018 general election.

Ling is a second-term MP for Sibu, having also been recently appointed Sarawak DAP’s GE15 elections director. – The Vibes, September 5, 2022
