PSE sees Mynt IPO boosting retail stock market participation

THE Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) expects the planned initial public offering (IPO) of GCash parent Mynt to help broaden retail participation in the stock market by giving the digital wallet's large user base an opportunity to invest in equities.

PSE President and CEO Ramon Monzon said Monday that the ease of investing through GCash could encourage more users to participate in the Mynt IPO and eventually become more active in stock trading.

GCash has more than 90 million subscribers, Monzon said, adding that “the access of the GCash subscribers investing is very easy now” via a joint venture with the PSE that allows GCash users to invest directly in stocks through the e-wallet.

The PSE recorded 3.64 million stock market accounts in 2025, up 27.3 percent from 2024. Of these, 3.23 million, or 88.6 percent, were opened online, with the exchange attributing the growth partly to the increasing accessibility of stock market investing through e-wallet-integrated platforms.

Monzon said that attracting more retail investors was part of the PSE's broader effort to deepen the country's capital market. “The best way to deepen the market really is to have more products,” he added.

Mynt, the parent of GCash, received board and shareholder approval in June to pursue an IPO on the PSE. The PSE has said that the IPO, scheduled for Oct. 19, would be worth P92.31 billion.

Mynt is among the two forthcoming IPOs listed by the PSE, with the other being Vitro REIT, which is scheduled for Oct. 12. The two offerings form part of approximately P133.70 billion in forthcoming capital-raising activities expected by the exchange.

The PSE expects total capital raising for 2026 to reach about P203.13 billion, around 20 percent above its initial P170-billion target.
