Amid rising power demand during the ongoing summer season and the upcoming paddy cultivation period, the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has floated a tender to procure 250 MW solar power from grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) projects in the state.
However, only projects with a minimum capacity of 50 MW will be eligible, while bidders will be allowed to offer projects at multiple locations in Punjab. The total cumulative capacity quoted by a single bidder cannot exceed 125 MW.
PSPCL has clarified that only intra-state projects connected to the PSPCL/PSTCL grid will qualify under the bidding process.
The utility has invited open bids till May 28, 2026, while techno-commercial bids will be opened on June 1, 2026.
Interested bidders will have to deposit a tender document fee of Rs 29,500 and a processing fee of Rs 3.54 lakh. Besides this, an earnest money deposit (EMD) of Rs 10 lakh per MW has also been fixed for participating firms.
Successful bidders will sign a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with PSPCL for a period of 25 years from the scheduled commencement date of power supply.
The tender further specifies that solar PV modules and cells used in the projects must be procured only from manufacturers and models approved under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s authorised list.
The move is aimed at strengthening Punjab’s power supply system and reducing pressure on conventional power sources during the high-demand paddy season, when electricity consumption rises sharply due to agricultural operations.
