Despite the Magpies losing three in a row to Manchester City, Liverpool and Brighton, he is sticking with the claim.
Pearce appeared on talkSPORT's White and Jordan show, stating: Yes I did, and I'm sticking with it.
I've seen De Bruyne dropping out of Man City, I've seen so many other teams have got too much to do.
"I'm going to throw in the mix here, I think they've had the toughest start on paper than any team in the league.
Liverpool, Man City, Brighton away, Aston Villa at home. All teams you think will be there or thereabouts."
