As a corporate human resource management and development practitioner, I had completed program on basics of industrial-organizational psychology that examines workplace behavior to enhance productivity & employee satisfaction. I understand by applying psychological principles, I-O psychologists help businesses select the right talent, design efficient workplaces, and develop effective management practices. The aim is to improve job performance & the overall work environment because businesses are always looking for ways to increase productivity, boost efficiency & improve employee satisfaction. I-O psychologist do may things, including studying worker attitudes and behavior, evaluating companies & conducting leadership training & development.
I am amazed when Honorable Sitti Djalia A. Turabin Hataman, City Mayor of Isabela de Basilan talked to me about the needs of Psychological First Aid (PFA) training to equip her direct report, especially those staff involved with field work to provide immediate, compassionate, and practical support to the people experiencing acute distress from crises, disasters, or unintentional trauma emergencies. She knows unlike clinical therapy or counseling, PFA does not diagnose or treat mental disorders. Instead, it functions exactly like physical first aid - stabilizing someone emotionally, mentally and physical safety.

I briefed Mayor Sitti, that “There is a lack of theoretical & empirical consensus regarding which is the most effective and safest early intervention to restore the emotional well-being and functionality of a person who has been affected by potentially traumatic situation, as well as to prevent the development of emotional long-term scars. Multiple international organizations promote the use of PFA, although there is no conclusive evidence to support this solution.”
Alternatively, Islamic PFA or the Islamic Psycho-Spiritual First Aid (PSFA) methodology blends the standard global protocols of PFA (such as the WHO's Prepare, Look, Listen, Link framework) with traditional Islamic Psychology (Tibbs al-Nafs) and spiritual coping mechanisms. Secular PFA frameworks often treat the mind and body in isolation. The Islamic methodology integrates the mind, body, and soul, utilizing a person's faith as a core source of resilience.
