Pub caretaker fined RM2,500 for operation beyond allowed time

Kota Kinabalu: An entertainment outlet caretaker was fined RM2,500 or two months jail by the Magistrate’s Court here for operating the premises beyond the permitted time.

Tahassarun Amuma, 45, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to operating the Club Mix R&B Pub at Koidupan town shop, Penampang at 2.30am on August 4.

The prosecution informed the magistrate that a police team during Ops Noda went to the premises and found it still operating beyond the permitted time.

The police seized the music equipment in Tahassarun’s presence.

Read more Tahassarun had committed an offence under Section 4(1) of the Public Entertainment Ordinance 1958 which is punishable under Section 11 of the same Ordinance that provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to one year or both, on conviction.

In another case, two women were fined a total of RM3,600 for engaging in online gambling using a handphone.

Fazilah Zakaria, 26, and Nurlina Nasir, 29, admitted to committing the offence separately.

Shop assistant Fazilah was fined RM1,800 or two months jail for committing the offence at 2.50pm on April 7 at a premises at Kepayan Ridge here.

Nurlina was also fined RM1,800 or two months jail for similar offence at 7.45pm on May 5 at the five-foot-way of the Inanam Business Centre, Mile 6, Jalan Tuaran.

They were charged under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming House Act which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to six months jail or both, on conviction.

According to the facts of the case presented by the prosecution, Fazilah and Nurlina were arrested separately during the Ops Dadu Khas.
