Public feedback sought on new Gaming Sub-Code

Kuala Lumpur: The Communications and Multimedia Content Forum of Malaysia (CMCF) is seeking public feedback on proposed safeguards covering children, in-game spending, loot boxes, online interactions and esports under a new Gaming Sub-Code.

The 45-day nationwide public consultation, which runs until Oct 24, covers games accessible in Malaysia and seeks views from gamers, parents, publishers, consumer groups, civil society organisations and other interested parties, according to BusinessToday Malaysia.

The proposed code would set sector-specific standards for game developers, publishers, distributors, platforms and other service providers as gaming increasingly combines entertainment, social interaction and digital commerce.

It covers age classification and assurance, parental controls, in-game purchases, virtual currencies, loot boxes and gacha mechanics, user-generated content, reporting and moderation, bullying and harassment, as well as safeguards for younger esports participants.

CMCF said submissions would be reviewed and consolidated before the Gaming Sub-Code is finalised, with feedback to be submitted through its website.
