  • Donald Trump's proposed $400 million, 22,000-square-foot ballroom at the White House faces a key review vote by the National Capital Planning Commission.
  • Over 98 per cent of more than 10,000 pages of public comments expressed strong disapproval, with many calling the design "hideous" and a "fascist take on classism".
  • Concerns about the project's unilateral commencement and demolition of the East Wing were also raised by Republican Rep. Michael Turner.
  • Despite widespread opposition, a staff report recommended moving forward, and the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts previously approved the project without seeing the final design.
  • The National Trust for Historic Preservation has filed an amended lawsuit, alleging the administration violated federal laws by proceeding without proper approvals, after a federal judge rejected an earlier injunction request.
