Public servant and retired officer arrested in RM303,000 criminal breach of trust case

THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a serving public servant and a retired government officer in connection with a criminal breach of trust involving RM303,000.

Sources revealed that the suspects, a man and a woman aged between 40 and 60, were detained at approximately 12 noon while giving statements at the MACC Lahad Datu branch office in Sabah.

“They are believed to have conspired to commit the offence between July 2020 and February 2021 while serving at a government agency in the state,” the source said.

Preliminary investigations indicate the duo allegedly misappropriated public funds via eight sets of payment vouchers issued to foreign labourers – payments which the intended recipients never received.

When contacted, Sabah MACC Director Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah confirmed the arrests, stating that the case is being investigated under Section 409 of the Penal Code for criminal breach of trust by a public servant or agent.
