Public urged not to share footage of alleged school bullying incident

TENOM: Melalap assemblyman Datuk Jamawi Jaafar has urged the public not to circulate images and videos linked to an alleged bullying incident involving a female student at a school hostel in the district and to allow police to conduct their investigation.

He said all parties should respect the wishes of the victim's family and students for the footage not to be shared further.

Jamawi also called on Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) and schools to strengthen anti-bullying awareness efforts to help prevent similar incidents from recurring.

Meanwhile, Tenom police confirmed receiving a report on June 23 regarding a female student believed to have been the victim of bullying at a school hostel, following the circulation of related content on social media.

District police chief Supt Azmir Abdul Razak said investigations have been opened under Section 325 and Section 507B of the Penal Code as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, with three individuals called in to assist investigations and several items seized for further inquiry.
