SHAH ALAM: The public have been urged to report fake news and defamatory content targeting candidates in the Malacca state election to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the public should also lodge complaints directly with social media platforms, including Facebook and TikTok, in addition to reporting the content to MCMC.

“If anyone comes across content that is false or defamatory towards any candidate, I urge them to report it immediately to MCMC and allow the commission to assist,” he said at a press conference after launching National Courier Day 2026 here today.

He said he would visit Malacca tomorrow to inspect the election media centre and review complaints raised by the public.

Fahmi added that MCMC would continue monitoring online content throughout the campaign period.

He also said internet connectivity issues at polling centres had been assessed in advance, with MCMC expecting no disruptions on polling day.

“All internet-related issues at polling centres have been reviewed beforehand, and we expect there will be no internet problems at polling centres on polling day,” he said.
