Publix’s berry recall expands to eight states with shoppers urged to avoid GreenWise berries

  • Publix has issued an expanded recall for all lots of its GreenWise Organic Whole Blueberries and Whole Mixed Berries due to potential contamination with Escherichia coli O145 (E. coli O145).
  • E. coli O145 is a Shiga toxin-producing strain that can lead to severe symptoms such as stomach cramps, bloody diarrhea, and vomiting, with a risk of hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) in young children, older adults, and immunocompromised individuals.
  • The affected products, detailed in a July 29 news release, were distributed to Publix retail stores across eight states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
  • Publix initiated an internal stop sale of these frozen products by the end of June 2026, and they remain unavailable for purchase, expanding on a previous recall announced on July 3 by Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A.
  • Customers who have purchased the recalled GreenWise Organic Whole Blueberries (10-ounce and 48-ounce) or Whole Mixed Berries (10-ounce and 48-ounce) are advised to discard them or return them to any Publix store for a full refund.
