SEMPORNA: A pump boat-type fishing boat caught fire in waters off Singgah Mata, around 8.30am, on Monday.
The Atas Air Semporna Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief, Kadir Halalan, said he received an emergency call at 8.38am through the station’s line.
“A team of five officers and members were deployed to the location along with a boat for extinguishing operations,” he said.
According to him, the fire started in the engine section. However, the owner managed to put it out and the operation was under control by 8.46am.
He said an inspection was carried out to ensure there was no other danger, before ending the operation at 8.50am.
No casualty was reported.
