PUNBUS will decide employees’ claim for regularisation of service within four weeks, the Punjab and Haryana High Court was told.

The State made the submission before a Division Bench of Justice Harsimran Singh Sethi and Justice Amarinder Singh Grewal. It was hearing an appeal against the Single Judge’s order dated March 7.

Appearing for the appellants-State, Additional Advocate-General Jastej Singh submitted that the Single Judge’s order “was being interpreted by the PUNBUS to mean that a direct order for regularising the services of the respondents has been passed”.

He, however, contended that “the minute reading of the impugned order shows that the only direction was given to consider the claim of the respondents for regularisation of their services in terms of Punjab Adhoc, Contractual, Daily Wages, Temporary, Work Charged and Outsourced Employees Welfare Act, 2016 and the settled principle of law.”

Jastej Singh further submitted that as liberty had already been granted to PUNBUS to decide the issue, it would “pass an appropriate order in terms of the direction given by the Single Judge” on the respondents’ claim for regularisation “within a period of four weeks from Friday.”

He added that the order so passed would be conveyed to the respondents “for their information and necessary action”, and requested that the appeal be disposed of as not pressed.

Advocate Inderpreet Singh Sohal appeared for the respondents.

Accepting the State’s statement, the Division Bench observed: “In view of the statement made by counsel for the appellants, the present appeal is disposed of as not pressed.” The Bench also disposed of the pending miscellaneous applications.
