Despite a confiscation order being issued, the operator of the unlicensed fun fair in Puncak Alam allegedly still stubbornly continued operations, leading to the incident involving 3 guests yesterday (December 12).
It was earlier reported that 3 people, including a child, were injured after they were thrown out while riding the spinning ‘Squid Ride’ at the fun fair.
According to Harian Metro, Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS) Chairman Rahilah Rahmat shared that a seizure was carried out on November 29 (Tuesday) after the fun fair’s operation permit was not approved.
In addition to operating illegally, the fairgrounds also did not get permission from MPKS, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (JKKP).
“The fairground operator applied for a permit from MPKS. However, we did not approve it and seized the location.”
“However, the relevant parties were still stubborn to operate since last Saturday (December 10) until the unfortunate incident occurred,” she said after inspecting the site today (December 13), adding that those involved only received permission from the owner of the land.
In connection with this, MPKS has since issued a compound notice to the operator of the amusement park in accordance with Section 6(1) of the Selangor State Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Enactment 1995.
“The offense carries a maximum fine of RM25,000 or imprisonment of up to 3 years, if convicted. The carnival site was also ordered to close and cannot operate fully,” she explained.
Rahilah advises all parties to comply with the prescribed instructions and to not operate without valid permits. She added that such an incident involving the guests could have been avoided if the authority’s instructions were to have been obeyed from the beginning, when the seizure was carried out.
