A punishing heat wave tightened its grip on Haryana on Tuesday, according to the India Meteorological Department’s daily bulletin issued from Chandigarh.

The IMD has issued heat wave to severe heat wave warnings for the vast majority of Haryana’s districts today.

The southern and central belt – encompassing Sirsa, Fatehabad, Hisar, Jind, Bhiwani, Rohtak, Sonipat, Panipat, Gurugram, Faridabad, Palwal, Mewat, Rewari, Mahendragarh, Jhajjar and Charkhi Dadri – faces the more serious severe heat wave warning.

The northern districts of Chandigarh, Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra and Karnal are under a heat wave watch at isolated places.

Maximum temperatures across the state remain appreciably above normal, with no large change expected over the next two days.

Warm nights were observed at isolated places in the state. However, some respite is in sight.

A fresh Western Disturbance is expected to impact Haryana from May 28, bringing with it thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 50-60 kmph at isolated places, along with hailstorm activity.

Light to moderate rainfall is expected at a few places on May 28, spreading to many places across the state on May 29 and 30.

The IMD forecasts a significant temperature fall of 6-8°C, over the three days following the disturbance, before a modest rise of 2-4°C thereafter. Weather is expected to turn dry again by June 1.
