Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief spokesperson and former Cabinet Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal on Saturday said that around Rs 250 crore had been released to strengthen power infrastructure in the Ajnala Assembly constituency. He added that the Punjab Government had recently sanctioned an additional Rs 25 crore to further improve electricity services in the region.

Dhaliwal was speaking after chairing a high-level review meeting with senior officials of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) at Ramdass. The meeting focused on ensuring uninterrupted power supply to domestic, commercial and agricultural consumers, while accelerating infrastructure upgradation works across the constituency.

Among those present were Border Range Chief Engineer Surinder Singh Bains, Superintending Engineer Balkar Singh, Additional Superintending Engineer-cum-XEN of Ajnala Division Engineer Anish Singh and other PSPCL officials.

Dhaliwal said a comprehensive action plan had been prepared to utilise the newly sanctioned funds for strengthening the power network in Ajnala, Ramdass, Gaggomahal, Chak Dogran and Jhander subdivisions. The proposed works include the modernisation of power grids, replacement of old poles, repair of sagging wires and several other measures aimed at improving voltage levels and ensuring a more reliable electricity supply.

The meeting also reviewed steps to ensure uninterrupted power supply in both urban and rural areas. Officials discussed increasing the height of electricity poles to 11 metres to reduce accidents caused by low-hanging wires and inadequate ground clearance.

The MLA directed officials to maintain transparency in the execution of development works and ensure uninterrupted power supply to agricultural tubewells during the ongoing paddy transplantation season. He also instructed them to respond promptly to incidents involving damaged or burnt transformers in farming areas.

Launching an attack on previous governments, Dhaliwal alleged that traditional political parties had failed to safeguard the interests of electricity consumers and neglected the strengthening of power infrastructure.
