The move follows CM Bhagwant Mann’s announcement on June 16 in which he had said the government would formulate a policy to ensure postings of women employees in Group C and D categories within a maximum radius of 40 km from their homes after probation.

In a new initiative aimed at improving the work-life balance of Punjab government women employees, especially teachers, the Department of Personnel has asked all administrative departments to furnish details of Group B, C and D female employees currently posted beyond a 40-km radius of their parental or marital homes.

The directive, issued on June 19, seeks to implement the new policy under which eligible women employees — including teachers, staff nurses, women police personnel and others in Group B, C and D categories — will be posted within 40 km of their homes after completion of the probation period.

The circular states that the state government has taken this initiative to support women employees in balancing professional responsibilities with family commitments.

Departments have been asked to compile the information in a prescribed proforma containing details such as employee name and designation, group category, current place of posting, parental or marital address, approximate distance from the place of posting, and probation status.

The move follows CM Bhagwant Mann’s announcement on June 16, in which he had said the government would formulate a policy to ensure postings of women employees in Group C and D categories within a maximum radius of 40 km from their homes after probation. The policy also covers Group B employees, as per the latest circular.

However, the relief would not apply to teachers on probation.

President of the Democratic Teachers Front (DTF) Vikram Dev said the probation period clause should be removed. “In case of mutual transfers, the probation period clause should also be removed,” he said.
