Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) President Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, on Thursday, alleged that the Executive Officer of the Gidderbaha Municipal Council had remained absent from office for the past two days, preventing Congress candidates from securing No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for the Municipal Council elections.
Warring, along with Congress activists, barged into the EO’s office and showed his vacant chair.
He alleged that the EO of Gidderbaha Municipal Council, at the behest of some AAP leaders, was avoiding issuing NOCs to Congress candidates.
“If we don’t get the NOCs, we will submit self-declaration forms along with the nominations. We are winning the election and will not bow down to such tactics,” he said.
He further alleged that several votes of former municipal council president Narinder Munjal, alias Binta Arora, had been transferred to some other municipal wards, which also need a fair probe.
Warring also met the protesting sweepers in Gidderbaha. Warring is a three-time MLA from Gidderbaha and is currently the MP from Ludhiana. He had vacated the seat after becoming an MP, and AAP’s Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon won the bypoll from there.
Meanwhile, Arvinder Pal Singh, SDM Gidderbaha, said, “The EO had come to my office for some work at that time. He has been directed by me and his head office to sit in his office.”
Regarding the transfer of some votes to different wards in the same street, the SDM said, “I have joined here just two days ago. The voter lists were published before my joining. Once finalised, we cannot do anything now. If someone requires any modification, the process needs to be followed.”
