
Punjab will launch a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls on June 25, with the final voter list scheduled to be published on October 1, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Anindita Mitra said on Wednesday.
Mitra held a meeting with representatives of recognised political parties regarding distribution, filling and collection of enumeration forms during house-to-house visits of booth-level officers (BLOs) from June 25 to July 24.
A total of 24,453 BLOs will reach out to 2.14 crore electors during the month-long exercise, she said.
The rationalisation of polling stations would also be done till July 24. The draft electoral roll will be published on August 3.
Objections and claims can be submitted from August 2 to September 2. Their disposal will go on from August 3 to September 9.
Mitra said that the final voter list will be published on October 1.
The CEO informed political party representatives that 86.02 per cent of Punjab’s voters had already been mapped. The list of unmapped voters was shared with the parties, and they were appealed to assist the election staff in mapping the unmapped voters.
Mitra appealed to political parties to actively participate in the SIR process and extend full cooperation to election staff for its successful implementation. She also addressed concerns raised by party representatives regarding the SIR process.
