Kota Kinabalu: Federation of Kwang Tung Associations Malaysia President Tan Sri Koo Yuen Kim urged members to unite in pursuing fair development for the Chinese community in education, culture and religion.
He also emphasised the importance of enhancing interaction and sharing of information among members.
Koo is heartened with the latest announcement of visa-free travel for Malaysians to China for up to 15 days, and a 30-day visa-free policy for China nationals entering Malaysia.
He said speaking at the 46th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Election of the Standing Committee of The Federation of Kwang Tung Associations Malaysia, here, Saturday.
Meanwhile, Federation of Kwang Tung Associations Malaysia Vice President Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen said it was an honour for Sabah to host the 46th delegates conference and election of the federation, more so as Cantonese comprise 70 per cent of the Chinese population in Sabah.
She hoped that delegates will take the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful beaches, islands, sunset and delicious seafood during their stay in Sabah.
She also commended Sri Koo Yuen Kim, Deputy President Dato’ Tang Zhi Nian and the committee for transforming The Federation of Kwang Tung Associations Malaysia into one of the outstanding federations.
Earlier, Susan said the Women and Youth Sections determine the fate and future of the federation.
“Hence, nurturing youths and women is essential to safeguard the future of the association.”
As the President of The Federation of Guangdong Associations Sabah, Susan hopes that the state Youth and Women wings will participate in the activities organized by the national federation for them to learn and grow.
Separately, Tang said the Youth and Women sections are important arms of the federation.
Tang said youths are the successors of the federation, while women are indispensable in the organisation’s affairs.
“The parent organisation must keep up with the times. And one day, we will have to step down and pass the baton to younger leaders to promote and run the federation,” he said when representing Koo in officiating at the Youth and Women Sections’ AGM.
