Pursuit of Jade is a Chinese historical romance drama adapted from a novel of the same name by author Tuanzi Laixi. The series has been shot across picturesque locations in China’s Zhejiang province, as well as in film studios. It has been creating global buzz, with its early episodes showcasing a slow-burning romance and intense chemistry between the lead pair, Zhang Linghe and Tian Xiwei. Later episodes, featuring war sequences and battleground scenes, have further fuelled its popularity. Pursuit of Jade: Plot, cast, release date, trailer and more

The cast of the Chinese drama includes Zhang Linghe as Xie Zheng, Tian Xiwei as Fan Changyu, Deng Kai as Qi Min, Ren Hao as Huai’an Li, Yan Kuan as Wei Yan, Liu Lin as Madame Zhao, and Yue Yang as Doctor Zhao. Directed by Zeng Qingjie, the series has 40 episodes, with a 45-minute runtime for each episode.

You can stream the show on NetflixiQIYI, and WeTV. The first episode dropped on March 6, with an episode each weekday, and two on every Saturday and Sunday. The finale is supposed to air on March 30.

Pursuit of Jade tells the story of a butcher’s daughter, Fan Changyu, and a fallen marquis, Xie Zheng. After a chance meeting in a snowstorm, the two stage a marriage of convenience, while they strove towards their own hidden agendas. While Fan Changyu is looking to become the head of her household, Xie Zheng is looking to avenge a 17-year-old massacre. However, the couple developing genuine feelings for each other complicates matters, with a war forcing them apart. The two later reunite on the battlefield, fighting alongside each other.

Zhejiang

Pursuit of Jade was shot primarily in Zhejiang, a province in eastern China, offering picturesque lakes, mountains, pagodas, and tea plantations among other attractions. Parts of the series were shot at the Hengdian World Studios, including scenes depicting the Royal Court, ceremonial sequences, and the palatial family mansions. Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang, also appears in the series. Lakeside and street scenes of the series were shot here.

Some scenes were also shot at Zhejiang’s Xiangshan Film and Television Town, including scenarios involving military movements, battle scenes, and political confrontations. The spot is well-known for its massive cityscape and wide streets, which helped make the scenes feel more immersive, instead of being reliant on visual effects.

Market scenes and several romantic sequences were filmed in the Tang and Song Palatial District, including its picturesque gardens and mansions. Some of the scenes involving forests in the background and snowy paths were shot in Longquan, a city known for its scenic viewpoints.

Some scenes were even shot in the Sichuan province, although exact locations have not been confirmed. War sequences and battlefield scenes were primarily filmed here.
