COMPUTERISED Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) Chief Executive Officer Mahmood Razak Bahman revealed a troubling practice where "runners" are making substantial profits by selling vehicle inspection booking slots to third parties at inflated prices.
Initial investigations indicate that these individuals, acting as intermediaries, are selling a single booking slot for as much as RM750, even though the original fee charged by PUSPAKOM for the inspection is only RM3.50.
“The investigation is ongoing with the cooperation of the Road Transport Department (JPJ). We are working to identify those involved and will be calling them in for further action,” Mahmood explained during a press briefing following a visit to PUSPAKOM Shah Alam, alongside Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, the Director-General of JPJ.
Aedy Fadly also confirmed that JPJ is seeking assistance from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate this scam.
“We are trying to track down the runners involved, but so far, all communication channels have failed to reach them. As a result, we will be exploring alternative methods to locate them,” he said.
Previously, the Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke, had stressed that PUSPAKOM would no longer allow multiple inspection bookings for the same vehicle registration number, in an effort to crack down on the practice of reselling inspection slots at exorbitant prices by middlemen. – March 17, 2025
