I will be frank – I admire Russia’s President Putin.
Putting politics and war aside, there is something admirably masculine about Putin, that makes my own masculine side look up to him. The way he speaks, the way he carries himself and the things he is capable of doing, are things that I feel, any masculine person will find admirable in a superior masculine figure.
As a leader, a commander, an elder or elder brother, or even a father figure, I feel that there is no leader on the world stage that is more admirable than Putin.
Amongst the masculine qualities that I admire the most in Putin, is his wicked sense of humour.
Other than Ronald Reagan, I think that the only world leader that has the ability to tell a joke well is President Putin.
I remember how on one occasion, when he was unfairly targeted at a panel discussion on energy many years ago, he would hit back with a joke to lighten the moment.
Do you want to hear a joke about the army?" Putin would say.
Without waiting for a reply, he would continue, "A young soldier is asked by a general: 'If you see 20 terrorists, what would you do?'"
"'I would take a machine gun and shoot them.'
'Good,' said the general.
'What if a tank was coming at you?' the general then asked.
'I would take a rocket launcher and defend myself,'" the soldier said.
"'And what if you see planes, tanks and terrorists together?' the General continued.
To this , the soldier will reply : 'General, am I the only one in this army?'
"So, I'd like to ask you: Am I the only one on this panel? Next to me are other people!" Putin will then remark, and cause the crowd to laugh and applaud.
Recently, Putin was at his humorous best again, and this time the person he regaled with his humour was our own PMX Anwar.
After a formal exchange where PMX Anwar will invite Putin to visit Malaysia, Putin will shared a light-hearted moment he had with PMX Anwar about marriage which had the entire hall bursting in laughter.
Earlier during their meeting it seems, Putin had asked the Malaysian PM a cheeky riddle during the tour of the Kremlin Palace. While showing Anwar the grand St. Andrew’s Hall, Putin pointed out three thrones and asked a question to Ibrahim. “There are three thrones; one of them is for the Czar, the second one is for his wife, and what do you think the third one is for?"
Without missing a beat, it seems, Anwar cheekily replied, “For the second wife!".
Putin’s joke not only entertained the hall, it also caused Anwar to be unable to contain his laughter.
The joke, acccording to news reports, has also gone viral, and will probably long trend in the social media space, as amongst the examples of Putin’s best joke telling moments.
Personally, I thought the joke was great, and it makes me proud to see someone like Putin share such a light hearted and familiar moment with the leader of our very own country.
