KUALA LUMPUR - Putrajaya Corporation is giving food court traders, kiosk and market stall operators a 30% reduction in monthly rental rates for one year at locations owned by the local authority.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh said this was meant to help reduce financial pressure for traders and small businesses.

“This step aims to help them survive in this challenging economic situation...by giving them the opportunity to reorganise their rent commitment in a stable and sustainable way,” she said at the Presint 9 Food Court in Putrajaya today.

The initiative is expected to benefit 244 small businesses there and will be implemented for 12 months beginning June 1, 2026 until May 31, 2027.

However, to qualify for the rental discount, traders must ensure that outstanding rental payments are settled.

Alongside this initiative, Yeoh said all traders and hawkers in Putrajaya have also agreed to giving senior citizen patrons food and beverage discounts of up to 15%.

This is a Putrajaya Corporation initiative to help those aged 60 and above cost with the cost of living.

“We want to make sure that groups like the elderly, who no longer earn an income, can enjoy the discount,” Yeoh said.

However, the discount only applies to individual patrons and cannot be extended to family members, she added.

The initiative is a “win-win” situation for both traders and senior citizen patrons, as traders will already benefit from reduced rental rates. - May 25, 2026
