Qatar Waives Visa-on-Arrival Fee for Macao Passport Holders

MACAO - Qatar has waived visa-on-arrival fees for Macao SAR passport holders, allowing eligible travellers to receive a tourist visa for stays of up to 30 days without paying a visa fee.

The measure took effect on Aug. 18, according to Macao’s Identification Services Bureau, which said it had been notified of the change by Qatar’s Consulate General in Hong Kong.

The arrangement does not make entry visa-free. Macao SAR passport holders still receive a tourist visa on arrival, but Qatar’s consular guidance now lists the visa itself as free.

“Holders of Macau SAR passports may obtain a free one-month immediate tourist visa on arrival at Hamad International Airport,” Qatar’s Consulate General in Hong Kong says.

Travellers must carry a passport valid for at least six months, a return flight ticket and a valid hotel reservation. Qatar’s consular guidance also requires visitors to have a credit card or US$1,500 in available funds.

For Macao travellers, the practical change is that the visa on arrival is now issued free of charge. Those who meet Qatar’s conditions can obtain the tourist visa after arriving at Hamad International Airport without paying a visa fee.

The arrangement differs from Qatar’s rules for Hong Kong SAR passport holders, who have been able to enter the country visa-free for stays of up to 30 days since May 2025. Macao passport holders remain under a visa-on-arrival system despite the removal of the fee.

Macao authorities advised travellers to check Qatar’s latest entry requirements before departure. The Identification Services Bureau maintains a separate list of visa-free and visa-on-arrival destinations for holders of Macao SAR travel documents.
