QC to suspend classes in public, private schools for Monday’s SONA

MANILA, Philippines — Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said on Thursday that classes in public and private schools will be suspended on Monday, July 27, 2026.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will deliver his fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) at the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City on July 27.

Belmonte confirmed with The Manila Times via Viber that the city government  will suspend classes to ease traffic congestion since there will be road closures particularly near the House of Representatives.

The mayor said they are still deliberating whether to cancel work at city hall too.

“We are still deliberating based on inputs from our Law and Order Cluster plus our HR (Human Resource) office,” Belmonte said.

Aside from personnel from the Quezon City Police District, the city government through the Department of Public Order and Safety under Elmo San Diego, former QCPD director, and Traffic and Transport Management Department are expected to dispatch sufficient number of personnel to help man traffic.

A city-wide liquor ban was also expected to be imposed to curb public disturbance caused by intoxication.

Belmonte urged demonstrators to communicate with the DPOS to secure rally permits.
