Quad bike rider killed grandfather with punch in park

  • Joshua Moore, 33, has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of 62-year-old grandfather James McKeown, who died after being found unconscious with a head injury in Beaumont Leys Park, Leicester, on April 6.
  • Mr McKeown was assaulted by Moore, who was riding a quad bike in the park with a young child, when Moore confronted him and punched him, causing him to fall and hit his head on the pavement.
  • After the assault, Moore placed Mr McKeown in the recovery position but left the park without calling for emergency services, instead cancelling a tattoo appointment and sorting out his affairs before approaching a police officer an hour later.
  • At Leicester Crown Court, Judge Timothy Spencer KC accepted Moore's plea, acknowledging it was 'brave' but warned of a serious prison sentence, adjourning the sentencing until July 31 for pre-sentence reports.
  • Detective Inspector Kevin Hames condemned Moore's unprovoked attack and his failure to call for help, stating that Moore's actions have devastated Mr McKeown's family, who have shown immense bravery throughout the investigation.
