
Queen Raja Zarith Sofiah visits the family of a 16-year-old student allegedly murdered at a school in Batu Pahat and offers condolences
BATU PAHAT: Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, today paid a visit to the family of a student who was allegedly murdered at a school in the district, at their home in Kampung Parit Selamat here.
According to a statement posted on Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar’s Facebook page, the meeting with the family of the late Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairool Faisal began with the recitation of surah yasin and tahlil led by Batu Pahat kadi Mohd Fauzi Bachok.
Raja Zarith Sofiah presented a personal contribution to help ease the family’s burden, as well as offering words of encouragement to the deceased’s father, Mohd Khairool Faisal Khyar, grandmother Jameyah Rabani and other family members.
Che’ Puan Mahkota Khaleeda Johor was also present during the nearly hour-long meeting.
The 16-year-old student was found unconscious and covered in blood at the school hall at about 5.50 pm on Saturday.
Johor Police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said the victim suffered multiple injuries to the head and body and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 16-year-old boy was detained in the Yong Peng area at about 7 pm the same day and remanded for six days until Oct 9 to assist in the investigation.
