Kota Kinabalu: Quick action by firefighters prevented further destruction in Kampung Inanam Laut on Sunday night after approximately 70 houses were saved from a blaze that destroyed two semi-permanent homes, three non-permanent rented rooms, and four vehicles.
Firefighters responded to an emergency call at 7.23pm and arrived at the scene located three kilometres away within six minutes to find two semi-permanent houses and three rented rooms fully engulfed in flames.
A total of 42 firefighters from the Lintas, Kota Kinabalu, and Penampang Fire and Rescue stations, supported by communication personnel and other agencies including the police, Civil Defence Force, Sabah Electricity, and Rela, brought the fire under control by 8.19pm.
One victim suffered breathing difficulties during the incident and received initial medical treatment at the scene from the Fire and Rescue Department's Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) team.
The operation, which utilised water from fire engines, a tanker, and a nearby river using two hose lines and three jets, was concluded at 10.20pm after officers ensured the site was safe.
