MALAYSIAN PHARMACY and wellness retailer R Pharmacy has opened its 28th outlet at Sunway Velocity Mall, as it targets expanding its retail network to 50 stores by 2029.

The latest outlet forms part of the company’s nationwide expansion strategy, which it said was aimed at improving access to wellness products while providing a wider retail platform for Malaysian homegrown brands.

R Pharmacy said its expansion comes amid continued efforts to strengthen Malaysia’s domestic pharmaceutical and healthcare ecosystem, including initiatives to enhance local manufacturing capabilities and pharmaceutical supply security.

According to the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), Malaysia recorded RM724.8 million in approved pharmaceutical investments across 15 projects in 2025, with domestic investors accounting for 96.6% of the total.

The approved investments are expected to create 872 employment opportunities.

R Pharmacy chief executive officer Adrian Toh said the company was seeking to play a role in supporting the growth of Malaysian wellness brands.

“R Pharmacy was built with the belief that Malaysians can create wellness solutions that are relevant, innovative and of a quality that can stand alongside global brands.

“As we open our 28th outlet, we are not only expanding our retail footprint, but also strengthening our role as a platform for Malaysian homegrown brands,” he said.

Toh said the company was also working with Tourism Malaysia to promote Malaysian wellness products to both domestic consumers and international visitors.

“We hope to contribute to a stronger and more visible homegrown wellness ecosystem while creating opportunities for both Malaysians and international visitors to discover locally made products,” he said.

Tourism Malaysia deputy director-general (Promotion II) Samuel Lee said initiatives that promoted Malaysian-made products could complement efforts under Visit Malaysia Year 2026-2027.

“We are pleased to see R Pharmacy championing Malaysian homegrown brands and creating greater opportunities for local products to reach both Malaysians and international visitors,” he said.

As part of the new outlet’s opening, R Pharmacy also announced a retail partnership with Malaysian health brand Tigrox.

Under the partnership, Wellous’ Tigrox Tiger Milk King product is now available at R Pharmacy outlets nationwide.

The company said the collaboration was intended to increase the visibility and accessibility of Malaysian wellness products among consumers.

The opening also coincides with R Pharmacy’s Merdeka & Malaysia Days Sales Campaign, which runs from Aug 13 to Sept 27.

The campaign features colour-themed promotions, including discounts for customers who wear designated Malaysian flag colours through their clothing or accessories during specified promotional periods.

The new outlet was officially opened by Toh, Sunway Malls chief executive officer Phang Sau Lian and Lee.

R Pharmacy said it planned to further expand its retail network while continuing to provide Malaysian wellness brands with greater access to consumers.
