The Terengganu Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) has initiated a concerted effort to locate a man suspected of drowning while enjoying a holiday with his family at Batu Buruk beach. Today, the JBPM deployed tracker dogs from the K9 unit in the search for the missing individual, identified as Zulkarnain Mohamed Zubir, aged 44. Leading the operation, Kuala Terengganu Fire and Rescue Station chief, Rozizah Abni Hajar, stated that two highly trained dogs have been enlisted to scour the coastal area where the incident occurred.
This extensive search and rescue mission, now in its second day, encompasses a team of 64 personnel comprising members from various security agencies. The search parameters have been expanded to cover a five-kilometer stretch along the coastline, extending from the initial incident site to the Kuala Ibai estuary. Despite facing adverse weather conditions and rough seas, ground patrols have been relentlessly conducted since yesterday morning. However, diving operations had to be halted at 6 pm yesterday due to safety concerns.
To bolster the search efforts, the operation has garnered additional support from the JBPM Subang Air Base unit, reinforcing the manpower on the ground. Furthermore, the deployment of drone units from the Malaysian Civil Defence Force and JBPM headquarters in Kuala Lumpur has been instrumental in surveilling specific locations with advanced equipment. Additionally, coordination has been established with the Marang Fire and Rescue Station to extend the search perimeter, particularly in the Pantai Pandak area.
Zulkarnain, a resident of Kuala Lumpur, is believed to have been swept away by strong currents, prompting urgent and extensive search measures. The collaborative efforts of the JBPM, along with support from other relevant agencies, underscore the commitment to ensuring a comprehensive search and rescue operation. As the search continues, the collective hope remains pinned on a successful outcome, as every effort is exerted to locate the missing individual and bring closure to the distressing situation.
