PUTRAJAYA Member of Parliament, Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Jidin, has denied allegations that he had offered to take over the position of Opposition Leader.
In a statement today, the Bersatu Vice President explained that such allegations were baseless.
He said that when he met PAS President, Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and several party leaders in Rusila, Terengganu, recently, the matter of his nomination was never raised.
"Slander in the month of Ramadan. While preparing for the debate on the Bill (RUU) this evening, I was informed that there was a rumour that was being spread.
"This refers to the accusation that when I met the PAS President in Rusila on February 18, I offered myself as a candidate for opposition leader representing Bersatu.
"I never mentioned my name as a candidate for opposition leader representing Bersatu in that meeting," he said via his social media account today.
He said the truth could be verified by PAS leaders who were also present at the meeting, namely PAS Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, Bachok Member of Parliament Syahir Sulaiman and Bersatu Supreme Leadership Council (MPT) member Datuk Razali Idris.
"It can even be confirmed by Tan Sri Hadi Awang himself. In this holy month of Ramadan, I pray that those who spread this slander will repent," he said.
Takiyuddin at a press conference after a special meeting of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) Supreme Council, recently announced that PAS would take over the position of opposition leader currently held by Larut MP, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
However, last Thursday, Takiyuddin, who is also the PN Chief Whip, explained that Hamzah's position as opposition leader so far remains unchanged, with the seat of the MP who was sacked by the party also remaining unchanged.
This is despite internal pressure from Bersatu demanding that Hamzah be replaced and his position changed. – March 2, 2026
